We’re proud to share new results from Mahdi and collaborators, presented at IEEE IUS 2025, demonstrating the potential of SURE for detecting tendon microvasculature beyond the limits of conventional ultrasound. While traditional Power Doppler imaging suggests that healthy tendons are mostly avascular, SURE imaging revealed subwavelength-sized vessels as small as 44 μm and flow velocities between 2.3–3.3 mm/s—all from just three seconds of data acquisition. These findings were validated using both Verasonics Vantage 256 and GE LOGIQ E9 scanners with a 10 MHz probe. By uncovering previously undetectable slow blood flow, this study highlights SURE’s promise for early diagnosis and assessment of tendon injuries, offering a powerful new tool for sports medicine and rehabilitation.
