Left atrial (LA) hemodynamic indices are critical markers in many cardiac conditions. To better understand these dynamics and evaluate cardiac interventions, researchers have developed a comprehensive in vitro model that replicates the physiological interaction between the pulmonary veins, LA, and left ventricle. The model features a flexible silicone LA mechanically matched to porcine tissue, with independently controlled systolic and diastolic functions. Its pressure and flow waveforms closely resemble those observed in vivo, as validated through magnetic resonance flow imaging of healthy individuals and published benchmarks.
