Row-column (RC) arrays offer a promising alternative to matrix arrays in volumetric ultrasound imaging due to their reduced hardware complexity. However, their field of view (FOV) is typically limited to the probe’s rectangular footprint. In this study, we combined a diverging lens with coded excitation (CE) to address this limitation. While the lens expands the FOV, it also introduces wave attenuation that reduces signal strength. The proposed use of CE—specifically, a 6 MHz chirp signal—compensates for this loss, boosting the signal-to-noise ratio by ~10 dB and extending penetration depth by ~100λ.
