Project Title: Perfusion Ultrasound Imaging

Project Description:

The project seeks to develop new advanced ultrasound techniques for three-dimensional imaging of blood perfusion and flow imaging using row-column (RC) arrays. The project aims to translate super resolution and perfusion imaging from 2-D to 3-D volumes, with the use of contrast agent and new synthetic aperture sequences. The work will focus on designing imaging schemes to use with newly developed RC CMUT (Capacitive Micro-machined Ultrasound Transducers), investigate its use on 3-D printed phantoms and in-vivo on animals.

 

Perspective:

The benefit of having a safe, non-ionising and non-invasive imaging technique in 3-D capable of visualizing microvasculature and its flow pattern, can potentially revolutionize cancer treatment and cancer research. However, 3-D ultrasound imaging still suffers from many drawbacks in terms of high cost and low performance. RC arrays is believed to a solution, providing clinicians and researchers a cheaper alternative to achieve ultrasound imaging in 3-D for both fast and slow flow.  The project is co-funded by the Innovation Foundation and is a collaboration between CFU, DTU Nanotech, BK Medical, University of Copenhagen and the Copenhagen University Hospital (Rigshospitalet).
