We are looking for a qualified researcher to contribute to the development of an augmented reality model of human hearing. This is an educational project aiming to raise awareness and convey knowledge to the general public about the complex function, the physiology, and the pathophysiology of human hearing based on the current state of knowledge in the field. A focus will be on the most common facets of hearing loss, its manifestations at the various stages along the auditory pathway, and its physiological, perceptual, and social consequences.


Using an interdisciplinary and translational approach, we will collect the newest findings from the fields of audiology, physiology, modelling and psychology about the most common types of hearing loss and translate the implications of these findings into concepts with clinical relevance. In doing so, we will build the scientific foundation for an augmented-reality (AR) multimodal model of the auditory system, exportable to different formats (e.g., virtual reality, web, video, etc.). In a future phase of the project, we will create the model, and ultimately, the model will be made broadly available for educational purposes (e.g., at schools, universities, and hospitals), implemented in e-learning tools like “massive open online courses” (MOOCS), accessible to the general public via web and mobile interfaces, and distributed to physical entities (e.g., universities and science museums). In the end, this project has large potential for creating a significant impact in the education of the public and of professionals in the fields of hearing health.


Responsibilities and tasks

You will be working in a team with three other experienced researchers and will be responsible for the scientific contents of the model. In detail, you will:

  • Conduct an extensive literature review to gather recent scientific knowledge.
  • Translate implications of basic research into concepts with clinical relevance.
  • Define the structure, format, building blocks, contents, and dissemination format(s) of the model, in collaboration with external hearing scientists and clinicians.
  • Write scientific review articles for international peer-reviewed journals.
  • Participate actively in scientific conferences and popular events related to education in hearing science.

During the course of the project, you will be able to utilize our international network of researchers to acquire the required multidisciplinary expertise for successful translation and implementation of the scientific material. In particular, you will have the opportunity to conduct short external stays at many different external institutions. Furthermore, you will identify and develop suitable ways to present the phenomena, which you identify as relevant, and use international conferences to discuss the material, as well as to find ways to supplement it. Based on the information you gather for these conferences and the feedback you receive, the team will collectively create a framework for the future model, and in particular, identify the most relevant subsets of information for various target audiences: from clinical personnel to university students to hearing scientists.


You will be part of a vibrant group of researchers with a lively intellectual and social culture. As a PostDoc you will participate and contribute to ongoing scientific discussions and will have the chance to interact with researchers of various fields of interest and background. With our unique connection to local clinics, a research spectrum ranging from fundamental research to translational and clinical applications will be possible.


Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent.


We are seeking highly motivated candidates who recently graduated with a PhD in hearing science, physiology, audiology, or another discipline related to hearing science. The candidate needs to have strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and be able to work in a team. You should be able to read and absorb scientific literature such that you can see both the details and the “bigger picture” in order to identify how a body of literature relates. Accordingly, you should be well-organized and detail-oriented. This project requires an interdisciplinary mindset, as well as the ability to anticipate various ways of thinking, motivated by the goal to foster interdisciplinary exchange and education.

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.


The place of employment will be DTU Lyngby Campus. The period of employment will be 2.5 years.
