Project Title: Physiological correlates of the audibility of masked signals at supra-threshold levels

Project Description: 
Determining one's audibility is challenging as sound perception results from complex neuronal processing of various sound properties. We investigate masking release, where masked tone's audibility does not soely depend on the intensity of the tone and context-dependent sound cues.  For example, such cues are comodulation, the interaural phase difference (IPD), and the stream formation. We investigate masking release with psychoacoustics, electroencephalogram (EEG), and computational modeling of a spiking neuronal network. 

Perspective:
With both behavioral and physiological methods, we believe that our study will provide us with a comprehensive understanding of masked signals' audibility by bridging perceptual and physiological findings. Thus, this project will provide more insights into how our auditory system processes sound and help to find effective solutions for designing hearing prosthetics.
