Project Description:

Humans with normal hearing abilities are remarkably capable of focusing their auditory attention at one particular speech source in noisy environments or so-called ‘Cocktail Party’ scenarios. The ability to selectively extract speech sources is, however, considerably reduced for older people and hearing-aid users due to cognitive changes and the current limitations of the hearing aids. The purpose of this PhD project is to develop an eye-controlled hearing instrument that selectively amplifies speech sounds from a talker that the listener is looking at.


By having a hearing aid that not only amplifies sounds but also selectively extracts the speech sounds the listener wants to hear, we can help people with hearing a loss to regain control over their hearing
