Project Description: 

The main objective of this project is to develop tracking methods for 3D blood flow using deep learning. Due to ultrasound being diffraction limited  separating individual blood cells is not possible. To solve this issue a contrast agent, consisting of micro-bubbles of gas, is injected in to the blood stream. Tracking the movement of these bubbles is not possible with conventional methods due to the amount of micro-bubbles. 

Live measurement and mapping of blood flow is a promising diagnostics tool in cardiology, for example to diagnose blood cancer, increased risk of blood clots and cardiac arrest. Ultrasound scanning lends itself to early screenings of anomalies in blood flow due to its non-invasiveness, fast acquisition time, and because other modalities expose the patient to harmful radiation.
