Project Description: 
This PhD project revolves around optimizing cancer treatment by the use of immunogenic anti-cancer peptides and adjuvants. A gel-based vaccine technology with a sustained release of antigens and immune stimulatory adjuvants will be developed to circumvent the need for chemo- or radiotherapies as a source of antigen. The focus is on development of a vaccine technology including loading of antigens and immune stimulatory drugs, release studies, and biological evaluation of the drug delivery system in preclinical cancer models. 

Perspective:
The therapeutic effect of already existing immunotherapies, primarily check point inhibitors, appears to be limited to immunogenic tumors, which comprise only a small group of all tumors. This vaccine technology has the potential of reinvigorating the anti-cancer immune response by local, intratumoral delivery of antigens and adjuvants and thereby circumvent the need for e.g. chemo- or radiotherapy.
