At DTU’s annual PhD graduation ceremony, Nikolaj Kofoed Mandsberg’s PhD Thesis was elected best at DTU in 2021.

When we ask Nikolaj to sum up his PhD project in one single sentence, he says, “During my PhD, I have primarily engineered surfaces and developed methodologies to understand and to manipulate properties of solid objects, e.g. surface-liquid interaction.”

And he enthusiastically continues when we ask what this acknowledgement means to him. “I am very happy to receive this award, which to me is an encouragement to continue and to keep being curious, being courageous, and being creative.”

Nikolaj Kofoed Mandsberg carried out his PhD project in the IDUN research group, headed by Professor Anja Boisen, who says, “Nikolaj has a keen interest in liquids behavior on textured surfaces. His current findings and focus on understanding/manipulating surface-liquid interactions will be crucial for our future development of nanosensors and devices for gut sampling. Such an intelligent guy with a lot of potentials!”

Head of Department, Jan Ardenkjær-Larsen is also pleased and proud that the PhD thesis of the year at DTU was awarded to a DTU Health Tech PhD Student. “It is a very joyful event and well-deserved that Nikolaj receives this recognition. I would like to take the opportunity to highlight the importance of dedicated PhD students and their major contribution to excellent research.”
