To gather DTU’s expertise within diagnostics, Centre for Diagnostics is included in DTU Health Tech from 1 July 2020. Likewise, due to the embedded synergies, BioFacility also becomes part of DTU Health Tech. This also supports a unified development of the whole area.

DTU Health Tech focus on creating a strong research environment for technologies for the health sector and industry. The expertise and infrastructure, which is now associated with the department with these two new entities, will further strengthen the department’s research and collaboration with external partners.

”There is a strong synergy between Centre for Diagnostics and the research areas at DTU Health Tech and together with BioFacility it will provide the department a range of new strategic possibilities for development”, Head of Department Thomas Andresen says.

In 2019, following the closing of DTU Vet, Centre for Diagnostics was established, and it has since then existed on commercial conditions. In this period, the centre has developed a number of diagnostic solutions, and has recently played a crucial role in the mass-testing setup in relation to the Corona pandemic.

Going forward Centre for Diagnostics and its 30 staff members will be part of DTU Health Tech, and will thereby create a stronger collaboration within the diagnostics area, just as it will strengthen the basis for other commercial activities to take place at DTU Health Tech.

With the inclusion of Centre for Diagnostics, DTU Health Tech gets an even closer contact with DTU BioFacility, which is an important part of DTU’s common bio-facilities and constitutes a highly specialized infrastructure. Therefore, the inclusion of the facility and its 10 staff members is seen as a natural development.

The two centres will continue as independent centres headed by Kristian Møller and Sanne Gram-Nielsen, and are part of the extensive reorganization of the department that will support the future strategy of DTU Health Tech.
