Project Description:
The project will explore and implement industrially relevant fabrication methods capable of controlling the 3D shape, chemistry, and mechanical properties of soft polymer materials to engineer mammalian cell microenvironments. The functional aim is to mimic essential aspects of an animal body environment in a disposable device and engineer device formats that enable instrument readout of cellular responses for commercially viable next generation drug-safety screening.

Perspective:
Adverse effects of drug candidates pose a challenge in drug development and safer drug screening methods are in high demand. Development of a disposable device that better models the targeted biological system is crucial to improve on existing in-vitro cell assays and improve drug safety.
